Things Learned from the Canes' Loss

Canes lost tonight 1-3 to the Winnipeg Jets.
While we are a little disheartened the Canes couldn't get the W, we aren't THAT sad.
Preseason games are a good show for what's to come in the season, but it's important to remember that the guys are still in camp. Here are some things we learned from tonight's game:

  • Brian Boucher is a beast in net.  Rutherford definitely made a good choice in securing him as a back up for Ward this season.  As sad as it is to send Peters to the AHL, we think he'll be back in the NHL someday soon after maturing his net-minder skills some more.
  • Dalpe has speed and has likely secured a spot in the Canes lineup. We want to see him up on the 1st with Staal.
  • Skinner definitely improved in the off season.  The passes through traffic and quick swivels up at net will definitely keep him from a looming sophomore slump.
  • Ryan Murphy probably won't make it to the Canes this year.  Not shocking because even though the kid can skate, defensemen take longer to mature as players. Can't wait to see him back in a year or two because he will be a big asset.
  • The defenders are fighting hard to get a spot on the team. Increased adrenaline and pressure led to a few more mistakes (noticeably penalties) than we'd like to see. Good to see them playing with heart though.
  • The Canes are actually capable of winning a lot of faceoffs. Granted, Skinner playing center definitely helped this figure.
  • We love Tim Brent for scoring a beauty of a first Canes goal.  Now we finally have a reason to love him beyond his nice demeanor and love of all things outdoors.

It's time for this hockey girl to call it a night & get some sleep.

Until Next Time,
L
