Why Aren't More Boys Like This?

Matt Duchene just posted this on his Twitter after the Avs lost 0-6 to the LA Kings.

"Sorry to all the fans that paid their hard earned money tonight to watch that terrible performance of ours. We WILL be better"

"This Avs team is not the same one from last year so don't get used to seeing games like that. We're not gonna disappoint you guys again"

We love guys that are willing to acknowledge when they did something wrong and commit to changing for us.  That's how girls are, right?

Things Learned from the Canes' Loss

Canes lost tonight 1-3 to the Winnipeg Jets.
While we are a little disheartened the Canes couldn't get the W, we aren't THAT sad.
Preseason games are a good show for what's to come in the season, but it's important to remember that the guys are still in camp. Here are some things we learned from tonight's game:

  • Brian Boucher is a beast in net.  Rutherford definitely made a good choice in securing him as a back up for Ward this season.  As sad as it is to send Peters to the AHL, we think he'll be back in the NHL someday soon after maturing his net-minder skills some more.
  • Dalpe has speed and has likely secured a spot in the Canes lineup. We want to see him up on the 1st with Staal.
  • Skinner definitely improved in the off season.  The passes through traffic and quick swivels up at net will definitely keep him from a looming sophomore slump.
  • Ryan Murphy probably won't make it to the Canes this year.  Not shocking because even though the kid can skate, defensemen take longer to mature as players. Can't wait to see him back in a year or two because he will be a big asset.
  • The defenders are fighting hard to get a spot on the team. Increased adrenaline and pressure led to a few more mistakes (noticeably penalties) than we'd like to see. Good to see them playing with heart though.
  • The Canes are actually capable of winning a lot of faceoffs. Granted, Skinner playing center definitely helped this figure.
  • We love Tim Brent for scoring a beauty of a first Canes goal.  Now we finally have a reason to love him beyond his nice demeanor and love of all things outdoors.

It's time for this hockey girl to call it a night & get some sleep.

Until Next Time,

It's Almost Hockey Season

So N & I have been using our twitter to discuss hockey news & happenings.  Our initial intent was to create a website designed by girls for female hockey fans.  We're both still in college so we're having a lot of trouble finding the time and money to create our own website.  Instead, we are posting all of our musing, predictions, etc here so we can post more than 140 characters.

We'll start to post stuff about ourselves and advice for girl's who love hockey after a while; we made a huge database of ideas over the summer and are eager to break them out.  The short version about us: We both love the Pittsburgh Penguins, but live in North Carolina.  L is also a huge Hurricanes fans because that's what's most available, while N mostly goes to Canes games to stalk Jeff Skinner.  We like to keep up with most hockey news in general, but you can definitely tell who our favorite players are.  Our love of players transcends leagues so don't be shocked if we post AHL & NHL news- we just like to keep on top of things.

We can't wait to spend the season discussing hockey & our favorite teams.  Importantly, only 8 days left until regular season returns.

Until next time,
L
